BACKGROUND OF THE UNION
KENYA PRIVATE UNIVERSITIES WORKERS UNION was first registered on 22nd January 2013 as Kenya private universities non-teaching workers union, in terms of the Labor Relations Act, 2007, laws of Kenya. The Union was founded by Mr. Peter E Owiti this was after he met workers suffering as he was taking a course in Human resource, in one of the private universities. He was drawn to solve those problems by first looking for a union to help these workers, but there was none after some consultation with the labor office he was advised to start one. So he registered a union as Kenya private universities non-teaching workers Union then later the lectures demanded to be also incorporated, so he later changed the name to Kenya Private Universities workers union since then he has represented over a thousand workers. The Union went into full operation in the same year.
