KENYA PRIVATE UNIVERSITIES WORKERS UNION was first registered as a Kenya Private Universities Non-Teaching Workers Union on 22 January 2013 under the Labor Relations Act, 2007, Kenyan Law. The Union was established by Mr Peter E Owiti after he met staff who were struggling as he took a course in Human Resources at one of the private universities. He was drawn to solve these problems by first searching for a union to support these workers and found there was non, but he was advised to start one after some consultation with the Labor Office. So he registered a union as Kenya's private non-teaching Universities Union and later the lectures requested to be incorporated, then he later changed the name to Kenya's Private Universities workers ’ union. Since then the Union has served more than a thousand workers. The Union was fully operational in the same year.
